CAN ONE FALL IN LOVE
WITH A NINE-TAILED FOX?
Ntv7’s latest Korean
drama series, “My Girlfriend is a Gumiho”, takes the term “Romance” to a whole
new level!
Apart from being prominent in its musical
influence, Korean craze also included the good drama series which often feature
some of the best Korean actors and actresses.
Being
aware of this, NTV7 has always taken the initiative to air some of
Korea’s most popular series on its station to fit in and cater to its K-drama
series fans. In an attempt to keep up with the trend, the station is bringing
in the award-winning, ”My Girlfriend is a Gumiho” that
features a line-up of young and talented Korean stars such as Lee Seung-gi, Shin Min-ah, No Min-woo, Park Soo-jin and Sung Dong-il.
The series will air on ntv7 starting from 5th
December 2013, every Monday
to Friday at 12.00pm.
For maximum satisfaction, ntv7 will not
be dubbing its screen language, to ensure the fans will get to enjoy the
series in Korean’s native language.
“My
Girlfriend is a Gumiho” tells the story of an average college student named Cha
Dae-woong (played by Lee Seung-gi) whose ambition is to become an action star.
He lost his parents at a very young age and he’s been living with his
grandfather and his aunt ever since. His mischievous behaviour has made his
grandfather to take a disciplinary act upon him and enrol Dae-woong in a strict
boarding school. Realising that he can no longer acquire the freedom that he
has now, Dae-woong flees and somehow ends up at a Buddhist temple where he hears
a haunting woman’s voice that tells him to draw a painting of a nine-tailed fox
(also known as a Gumiho). Little does
he know that he is about to release the painting that mimics a woman with nine
tails and that his life is about to change forever. Dae-woong is shocked and
bedazzled at the fact that a legendary fox from a painting can come to life
that he frantically runs for his life which leads him to suffer from a
life-threatening fall. Lucky for Dae-woong, the Gumiho has saved him by giving him her fox bead.
Once
Dae-woong awakes, he is surprised to find a beautiful girl standing before him
but he soon realises that she is the Gumiho
that he had accidentally released. Unsure of what to do, he conducts his own
research to have a better understanding of this human-form Gumiho. Dae-woong finds out that there is a myth that says Gumihos eat men’s livers to survive.
Afraid that the Gumiho will eat him
alive, Dae-woong tries to feed her beef to keep her happy while hiding her true
identity from the public. Referred to as Mi-ho (played by Shin Min-ah), she
often sticks herself with Dae-woong as she longs to become human. She is eager
to observe and understand how humans function and how they interact with one
another. Out of desperation, Mi-ho and Dae-woong strike a deal where she lends
him a mystical fox bead that can evidently increase his speed and strength,
which will come in handy for Dae-woong when he performs difficult stunts to
realise his dream in becoming an action star. In exchange, Dae-woong will need
to help her become a human.
As
time goes by, they become close and Dae-woong is completely smitten and charmed
by Mi-ho’s innocence.
Park
Dong-joo (played by No Min-woo), who is half human and half supernatural being
sees a lot of similarities between Mi-ho and his former lover, Gil-dal - a
goblin which he had loved centuries ago. But unfortunately for Dong-joo,
Gil-dal had fallen for a human that in return betrayed her, which caused her to
get killed. Dong-joo is convinced that Mi-ho is the reincarnation of Gil-dal,
hence he tries his best to accommodate to Mi-ho’s request in becoming human
while acting as her protector to ensure she will not go through the same fate
as Gil-dal. Dong-joo also tells Mi-ho that if she follows certain instructions
that would require her to drink human’s
blood while placing her fox bead inside his body for 100 days, will provide a
guarantee that she will turn into a human after 100 days. With the bead inside
the other human’s body, her Gumiho
energy will slowly drain out while the bead will live in the human’s body for
100 days, absorbing his energy. Once she has re-claimed her bead, she will become
fully human. Mi-ho complies, and Dae-woong accepts her bead.
However,
there is one very essential downside to this deal.
The
process of the bead exchange will result in a human’s death, which means
Dae-woong will eventually die when Mi-ho finally takes a full human form.
Worse, both Mi-ho and Dae-woong aren’t aware of this. How will this tragic love
affair turn out? Will they find out the truth? And if they do so, will they
have the time to undo the process?
