[Upcoming Event] Danny Elfman’s Music
From The Films Of Tim Burton
THE MPO PRESENTS ‘DANNY
ELFMAN’S MUSIC FROM THE FILMS OF TIM BURTON’ AT DEWAN FILHARMONIK PETRONAS!
Kuala Lumpur, March 2015 - The Malaysian
Philharmonic Orchestra (MPO)
will bedazzle its audience in the merriment of film music on Friday, 6 March 2015 and Saturday, 7 March
2015 at 8.30 p.m. at Dewan
Filharmonik PETRONAS, KLCC.
Themed Danny
Elfman’s Music from the Films of Tim Burton, these concerts are in
continuation of the MPO’s tribute to film music.
Prior to
this, it has presented concerts themed The Golden Age of Film Music, Symphonic Oscars (2009), A Tribute to John Williams (2011), Romantic Hollywood (2012), The Music of James Bond and The
Music of Harry Potter (both in 2013).
Danny
Elfman’s darkly sonorous music soundtracks are the audio manifestations of Tim
Burton’s magical visions. Together, they breathe colour into each other’s
worlds; the music warm and inviting, elegant and haunting, unearthing the
precise mood of the films.
Four-time Oscar nominee Elfman has established himself as one of the
most versatile and accomplished film composers in the industry. He has collaborated
with Gus Van Sant, Sam Raimi, Ang Lee,
Rob Marshall and Peter Jackson.
In addition to his film work, he wrote the iconic themes for television series The
Simpsons and Desperate Housewives.
On the other
hand, Burton is widely regarded as one of the cinema’s most imaginative
filmmakers who enjoys great success both in the live-action and animation
arenas. He has received Oscar nominations for the critically-acclaimed Frankenweenie
(2012) and Corpse Bride (2005), and a Golden Globe nominee for the epic
fantasy Alice in Wonderland (2010), a film that grossed a billion
dollars at the worldwide box office.
Listen to the
MPO performing excerpts from popular movies such as Charlie and the Chocolate
Factory, Beetlejuice, Sleepy Hollow, Mars Attack!, Planet of the Apes, The Nightmare
Before Christmas, Batman, Big Fish and Edward Scissorhands.
The MPO will
be led by Sarah Hicks whose great musicianship
has led major orchestras in the USA including the Philadelphia Orchestra. She
has also collaborated with diverse artists, from Josh Groban to Sting, Dmitri
Hvorostovsky and Sumi Jo. An active opera conductor, she has led productions of
Verdi’s Aida, Mozart’s Die Zauberflote and Humperdink’s Hansel und Gretel.
Let’s join
this unmissable celebration of film music, only at DFP! The concerts will also
feature the Young Choral Academy Chorus
and boy soprano Jayson Lim.
