[Movie Review] Bullet Train (2022 film)
Introduction
"Bullet Train" is a
film by David Leitch, the director for "John Wick" and "Atomic
Blonde". It is a vibrant and stylish action-comedy film featuring a
stellar cast including Brad Pitt, Aaron-Taylor-Johnson, Brian Tyree Henry,
Joey King, Andrew Koji and etc. It also features a number of surprising
cameos.
The film follows a hitman, Ladybug
(Brad Pitt), as he attempts to complete his straightforward mission, which
is to retrieve a specific briefcase. However, due to his bad luck, he
encountered multiple obstacles that prevented him from achieving his objective
as easily as he had hoped. Despite the story's relatively shallow nature, it
was filled with multiple twists and turns that will suprise the audience.

Review
In "Bullet
Train", David Leitch has once again provided an excellent action-packed
flick pairing with stylish comedic elements. The use of a fast-moving bullet
train and a colourful LED-lit background has created a sophisticated atmosphere
and ambiance for the visual pleasure of the audience.
Brad Pitt's
portrayal of the "Ladybug" character is eccentric, humorous, and full
of self-deprecating humour. In addition to his humorous qualities, Brad Pitt
also demonstrates his dexterity in action scenes! Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Brian
Tyree Henry, who portrayed the hitman siblings Tangerine and Lemon, are another
pair of actors who have dominated the spotlight. There is never a dull moment
whenever they both appear on-screen together.
As per introduction, the
storyline for this movie is quite simple and straight-forward. Yet, the
director has attempted to connect every available interpolated point through a
complex web of convolutions and plot twists. It is refreshing to see how
everything fits into the overall picture during the final act of the show.
Despite the fact that each
character has their own cool introduction footage, there is a lack of in-depth
character development. Consequently, the audience only learns the superficial
characteristics of the characters, including the protagonist. Essentially, the
characters are introduced in a manner similar to how standard fighting games
introduce their playable characters. Due to this, there is a lack of emotional
investment in the on-screen characters, with the exception of the duo Tangerine
and Lemon, whom I adore.
The movie's choice of music is an additional aspect that I enjoy. The funk music, such as "Stayin' Alive," complements the film and adds to the intensity of the fight scenes. Additionally, there are quite a few cameos and interesting details on certain elements (such as the water bottle..yes, the water bottle!) that make the movie distinct and quite novel in a blockbuster film.
If you can overlook the simplistic plot and lack of
character development, "Bullet Train" is an action-packed train ride
you will not regret taking!
