[Upcoming Concert] Let’s Tour The
World III by Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra (MPO)
Kuala Lumpur, March 2023 – This Saturday, 18 March 2023, at 11.30 a.m., the Malaysian
Philharmonic Orchestra (MPO) will take you on a musical tour around the
world at Dewan Filharmonik PETRONAS (DFP), KLCC.
All abroad with the MPO as gleeful globetrotters and
intrepid travellers explore the rhythms, melodies and musical traditions of
faraway lands. Gerard Salonga, MPO Resident Conductor, will lead this
family-themed voyage of global music with a classical flair.
First, the MPO will transport you to Sabah with a song
about a well-known landmark, Jambatan Tamparuli (the Tamparuli bridge),
showcasing traditional Malaysian sounds and reflecting the diverse culture of
its people.
The MPO then travels to Mongolia to perform Borodin's In the Steppes of
Central Asia as part of the 25th anniversary of Tsar Alexander II's reign.
Enjoy Russian eastern melodies before the MPO takes you to Galanta, Slovakia,
for some folk and gipsy dances in Dances of Galanta, composed by Hungarian
artist Kodaly.
The MPO will then travel to Paris to perform Delibes'
Coppelia: Entr'acte and Waltz, a sumptuous work with details that
belie its length and a mesmerising waltz.
When the MPO presents music by the Strauss family, the
next stop is Vienna. Radetzky March and Cuckoo Polka will entice the
audience with their rousing upbeat and merriment.
The MPO will then travel across continents and oceans
to present a selection from Copland's cowboy ballet, Rodeo, and then to Mexico
to perform Danzon No.2, one of Marquez's fascinating works, bringing the
concert to a rousing close!
