[Exclusive Interview ] BAD STRAIT BOYZ (BSB) @ MUSIC INDUSTRY NETWORKING
Kuala Lumpur, 2024 - In an exclusive interview with the Taiwan rap sensation BAD STRAIT BOYZ (BSB), the group opens up about their first visit to Malaysia, their diverse music styles, and the balance between music and dance in their electrifying performances.
Q1: Is this the first time for BAD STRAIT BOYZ (BSB) to come to Malaysia? What are your thoughts about Malaysia?
BSB: This is indeed our first time setting foot in Malaysia, and we're genuinely fascinated by the diverse tapestry of ethnicities here. It's quite intriguing to note the similarities in weather between Malaysia and our home, Taiwan. There's this sense of familiarity, yet with a sprinkle of difference that makes the experience unique.
Q2. What are the differences in music style and personality among the four members? How do these differences affect your collaboration?
BSB: Our group thrives on the diversity of our personalities and musical inclinations. Some of us tend to be more straightforward, while one member stands out for being the shy one in the group. However, it's these very differences that inject a dynamic and vibrant energy into our music production, making each piece we work on together more intriguing and rich in character.
Q3. As a rap group that sings and dances, how do you balance the emphasis between music and dance? Are there any particular challenges you face in the creative process?
BSB: Our core focus has always been on our rap. Dance, though an integral part of our identity, constitutes only about 10% of our overall act. We share a hearty laugh over this because, despite the minimal emphasis on dance, it's a “spice” ingredient that complements our music, adding an extra layer of expressiveness to our performances.
Q4. What would you like to say to your fans about the upcoming new work?
BBS: Our very own 阿夫Suhf just dropped an EP last week, marking the latest addition to our music repertoire. Besides, each of us is also exploring individual music projects. Think of BSB as more of an "Alliance" – coming together for special occasions and collaborations.
