[Upcoming Concert Event] Dvořák the Seventh Symphony @ Dewan Filharmonik PETRONAS (DFP)

THE MPO PRESENTS AN INTRIGUING PROGRAMME WITH A RENOWNED ACCORDIONIST AT DEWAN FILHARMONIK PETRONAS!

Kuala Lumpur, 2024 - Join the Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra (MPO) for a captivating programme on Saturday, 23rd March 2024, at 8.30 pm at Dewan Filharmonik PETRONAS (DFP), KLCC.

This concert marked Rossen Gergov's debut with the MPO. He received widespread acclaim for his work on both the concert stage and in the opera pit, with repertoire ranging from Mozart to the most challenging contemporary works.

Glinka's Overture to the Russlan and Ludmilla opera begins the concert. It is one of the most exhilarating pieces in the repertory, a veritable blizzard of notes that can carry you right out of the hall. The curtain raiser achieves its effect through speed, brilliance, and the intoxication of strings whirling in a virtuosic cloud of notes.

The MPO will next perform Omaggio ad Astor Piazzolla composed by Vladimir Zubitsky; this music is a tribute to the famed Argentinian composer Astor Piazzolla by making references to one of his famous works, Omaggio. 

This work, which incorporates elements of Ukrainian folk music and jazz, marks the MPO's pioneering collaboration with accordionist Alexander Hrustevich. He is a world-class bayanist who has performed in Poland, Austria, Germany, Italy, Brazil, and Russia. He recently performed with Grammy Award winner and composer Bobby McFerrin in a sold-out concert in Kiev.

The evening's highlight would be Dvorak's Symphony No.7, which is regarded as his greatest, darkest, most intense, and serious work. The London Philharmonic gave the world premiere of the work, which was written in Prague, in 1885.
