Synopsis 故事大纲

Zi Hao, a Chinese student in Primary 6 in Singapore, struggles with academic stress when his classmate Jayden, feeling threatened by Zi Hao's improving grades, falsely accuses him of cheating to protect his own top-ranking position. At the same time, Jayden's competitive mother, Sophia, accuses Zi Hao's mother, Wen Ting, of illegal work. As tensions rise, both mothers eventually realize the negative impact their actions have on their sons and decide to put their children's well-being above academic success, leading to reconciliation.

MOVIE REVIEW:

"I Not Stupid 3" is a well-intentioned look at Singapore's education system.

Jack Neo's latest film in the "I Not Stupid" sequel, released 22 years after the original, once again shines a focus on Singapore's high-pressure educational system. 

"I Not Stupid 3" follows the rivalry of two Primary 6 children, Jayden (Camans Kong) and Zi Hao (Zhou Yuchen), who are aggressively pushed by their tiger moms to be the best student in their class. The film delves at the enormous pressure placed on children to succeed academically, often at the expense of their well-being and childhood pleasure.

Jack Neo gets credit for bringing up topical issues such as the inflow of Chinese students into Singapore's school system and the ongoing discussion about academic stress. The film also seeks to investigate the motives for parents' fixation with academics, implying intergenerational trauma and cultural pressures.

The young actors give strong performances and the film also incorporates some authentic aspects that will appeal to Singaporean as well as Malaysian audiences, such as the countdown to major exam on classroom whiteboards.

For those looking for a nostalgic trip down memory lane, or parents struggling with their own academic expectations for their children, "I Not Stupid 3" is worth watching.
