Anime Fever Sweeps Malaysia: AniManGaki 2024 Takes Over MIECC!

Kuala Lumpur, 2024 - Last weekend, the AniManGaki 2024 convention turned the MINES International Exhibition & Convention Centre (MIECC) into a haven for Japanese pop culture enthusiasts, creating an otaku paradise like never before. From 23rd to 25th August 2024, thousands of anime, manga, and gaming fans converged for what can only be described as a geek’s ultimate dream come true.

This year's theme, "Camping in the Great Outdoors," brought a refreshing twist to the concrete jungle of MIECC's massive halls. The venue buzzed with energy as over 350 artist and cosplayer booths displayed a dizzying array of merchandise, turning the event into a bustling marketplace of creativity and fandom.

The star-studded guest list read like a who's who of the ACG world. Cosplay sensation Hakken graced the event, leaving fans awestruck with their stunning costumes. Meanwhile, artist Dokibird and local comic icon Ernest Ng captivated audiences, inspiring countless aspiring artists in the process. Adding to the excitement, an impressive lineup of VTubers transformed MIECC into a virtual reality wonderland, making it feel like attendees had stepped straight into an isekai anime!

Disney+ Hotstar seized the moment to showcase its anime prowess, offering exclusive screenings of highly anticipated titles like "Code Geass: Rozé of the Recapture" and "Sand Land." Fans were also treated to the premiere of "DAN DA DAN," with the first episode leaving them eagerly anticipating more.

Skincare brand Hada Labo made a splash by teaming up with top-notch cosplayers, including Hakken, LEA_coser, Amelia Khor 小飛鼠, and MIKKI, to demonstrate the importance of skincare for cosplayers. Their collaboration was a hit, proving that even in the world of cosplay, good skin is always in.

As night fell, the convention center transformed into a vibrant concert venue. JKT48 and KLP48 had the audience dancing, while Luna Haruna's soulful vocals transported them to the world of their favorite anime openings, creating unforgettable musical moments.

As the curtain closed on AniManGaki 2024, it was clear that this was more than just an event—it was a cultural phenomenon, a celebration of all things ACG (anime, comics, and games), and a testament to the ever-growing influence of Japanese pop culture in Malaysia.
