The Chinese New Year comedy-romance Honey Money Phony delivers a delightful mix of humor and clever storytelling, making it a perfect holiday entertainment treat.

Synopsis

The film follows Lin Qinglang (played by Jin Chen), a career woman who gets scammed by her ex-boyfriend Zhang Zijun (Wang Hao). Determined to get her revenge, she unexpectedly crosses paths with professional con artist Ouyang Hui (Sunny Sun). With the help of a fake car accident specialist (Li Xueqin) and veteran scammer Bai Shitong (Wang Yaoqing), they form an unconventional “anti-fraud team” and embark on a meticulously planned payback mission.

Performances

Jin Chen and Sunny Sun display great on-screen chemistry, seamlessly transitioning from mutual suspicion to genuine trust. Wang Hao plays the despicable ex-boyfriend so convincingly that the audience will love to hate him. Meanwhile, Wang Yaoqing’s portrayal of Uncle Bai injects extra charm and humor into the film, stealing the show in several scenes.

Direction & Production

Director Su Biao, under the supervision of producer Da Peng, manages the film’s runtime with a well-balanced pace. The film smartly integrates various comedic elements while maintaining an emotional core, making it both engaging and heartfelt.
