MPO Presents 'Fables and Fugues' – A Family Concert at DFP
Kuala Lumpur, 2025 - The Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra (MPO) continues its tradition of engaging family-themed concerts through its Family Fun Day series, fostering connections to the science of sound with immersive experiences. This time, the MPO presents 'Fables and Fugues', a captivating concert set to enchant audiences on Saturday, 15th March 2025, at 2:30 p.m. at Dewan Filharmonik PETRONAS (DFP), KLCC.
Taking the podium is Jebat Arjuna Kee, a young and dynamic Malaysian conductor, who will lead the MPO in an exciting lineup of musical storytelling. The concert features Haydn’s 'Toy Story', a playful piece that incorporates toy instruments, creating whimsical and delightful melodies that capture children’s imagination.
The program also includes:
Ravel’s 'Mother Goose Suite III: Empress of the Pagodas', inspired by classic fairytales.
Dorff’s 'Three Fun Fables', featuring beloved tales such as 'The Fox and the Crow' and 'The Tortoise and the Hare', brought to life through distinctive musical instruments.
Additionally, the repertoire showcases two of Britten’s most well-known works:
'Simple Symphony: II - Playful Pizzicato', renowned for its lively string plucking, creating a percussive, bouncy quality.
'Young Person’s Guide to the Orchestra', described by The Guardian as a "masterpiece of both musical craftsmanship and pedagogy." This iconic piece introduces children to classical music in a fun and educational way, highlighting various orchestral instruments.
Adding a theatrical touch, the MPO collaborates with Really Inventive Stuff, co-founded by actors Sara Valentine and Michael Boudewyns. Their 20th Anniversary World Tour brings imaginative performances designed to engage young audiences. Prior to this, they have performed across North America, collaborating with esteemed orchestras like The Philadelphia Orchestra, St. Louis Symphony, and Singapore Symphony.
